May Update: Switching Things Up

Hello everyone!
Thank you for coming back to read about what’s going on in Denton and supporting my ministry. The presence of campus ministries really does make a difference in these people’s lives, not just for while they’re in college, but hopefully for it has a lasting impact for the rest of their their life.

I have some exciting but also sad news. At the end of this semester, I will be leaving the Denton FOCUS ministry and going to work with the Richland College FOCUS ministry.  The Richland team needed a 4th person on their team and for various reasons it made sense for me to start working with them. Joey also works at Richland so this year we have both had long commutes as we’ve lived in between the two campuses. Although I’m very sad to be leaving behind my community in Denton, me and Joey are both looking forward to living close to the campus we work at and close to our church community.

My coworker Steven who started ministry with me in 2021 is also leaving Denton FOCUS to go be an overseas missionary in Thailand! Obviously I was crying…

A few weeks ago, we had our Denton North Church Retreat (The church that partners with FOCUS). We had a good weekend of FOCUS students and church members bonding together. A lot of girls from my small group last year came and one girl from my small group this year.

This is a quote that was shared at retreat from Dietrich Bonhoeffer about community from his book Life Together“The person who loves their dream of community will destroy community, but the person who loves those around them will create community”.  Although it seems obvious, many of us need the reminder to not love our idea of what our community should be like more than we love the actual people in our community.

Easter!

To raise money for SICM, our local ice cream shop let some of our students work for a night and have the proceeds go to the trip!

Thank you so much for reading!
